FAQs About SYLC

When is the lacrosse season?

Lacrosse is typically a spring sport. The lacrosse season in Maine runs from April through mid-June.

When can my child start playing lacrosse?

SYLC offers a skills and drills program for children in grades Pre-K through Kindergarten. Skills and drills meets twice a week and focuses on the basic skills of lacrosse while promoting fun.

What are the age/grade groups?

In Maine, we use a grade-based structure for our teams with two grades playing together at each level. Our league teams include 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade.

When/how do I register?

Registration begins in early January and runs for approximately 6 weeks. To register, navigate to the REGISTER tab on this website. In 2026, registration will run from January 5th-February 13th.  Registration includes an online payment -- 2026 rates are $110 for PK/K and $210 for grades 1-8.

What does my registration fee pay for?

Your annual registration fee to SYLC pays for a shooter shirt and shorts, insurance, lining and maintenance of the fields, club-purchased equipment (balls, goals, goalie equipment, first aid kits, etc.), certified officials, coaches certification and training and end of season celebrations.

Do I need to register my player through USA Lacrosse as well?

No! New for the 2026 season, Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse is now our governing body. SYLC pays dues to MYL and those dues cover everything that USA Lacrosse covered in the past -- insurance, coaches certifications, education and resources for coaches, pathways for player development, grants for local programs, and a New England Lacrosse Convention for coaches in February. Unlike past years when you had to pay SYLC a registration fee and then pay USA Lacrosse an additional $35, all fees are included in one registration price this season.
